How does he get them all safely over the stream?

SOLUTIONS
1. The word is "startling." Remove the "l" and it becomes starting. Then remove the "t" and it is staring. The rest of the changes are as follows: string - sting - sing - sin - in - and finally, I.
2. The solution for both is 6, because that is the number of letters in the name of the numbers.
3. He takes the goose across first, then comes back. Then he takes the fox across and brings the goose back. Then he takes the corn over. Finally he comes back alone and takes the goose across.
4. 7. The frog advances 2 feet with each jump, but he jumps 3 feet, so the 7th jump, starting at 12 feet, brings him to 15 feet, which takes him out of the hole.
5. The remaining 11 toothpicks were arranged to spell the word NINE.
6. E, N. T. They are the first letters of the numbers one through ten.
